Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors Offers Summer Camps for Tulsa Area High School Athletes Looking for Personal Development

The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors are looking for 7/8th grade and high school aged athletes to join their competitive program. The team regularly competes on the national level and our athletes are also successful in gaining college scholarships at universities all over the US. The team will be hosting summer camps in the month of June to allow participants to try rowing for the first time. Sign ups are available on the program website at http://www.tulsarowing.org/juniors.

There are many reasons that Tulsa Rowing Club is a great environment for student athletes to develop. First, when people are involved in our program they are provided input by the coaching staff to eat more healthily and get adequate amounts of rest. In addition to this, athletes experience less stress and are more able to balance the demands of school, extracurricular and life in general. Student athletes have a greater ability to control their weight and ultimately feel good about their personal image. In addition to this, the Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors has student athletes from 12 different high schools from across the Tulsa region. As a result, student athletes form relationships with other teenagers who share their enthusiasm for the sport of rowing.

“One of the most rewarding experiences for the coaching staff is the development of a young athlete. Some of our new recruits are overweight and after six months of training they get in much better shape and lose as much as forty pounds in some cases. Ultimately they feel better about themselves and have new found confidence,” says Head Coach Neil Bergenroth.

The June summer camps are aimed at those student athletes that are beginners to the sport. The Tulsa Rowing Club coaches are trained and certified by US Rowing.

All camp sessions will run Monday through Friday at the TU rowing tank, the Tulsa Rowing Club and the University of Tulsa boathouse at the Port of Catoosa.

“I loved the camp. It made me feel alive. I cannot wait until the season starts.”
