The winter months are an invaluable time for rowers to fine tune general skills and focus on developing a strong physical foundation with power that will make for a more competitive athlete. The program will provide an opportunity for athletes to get a head start in skill development leading into the spring season. Each athlete’s training will also be characterized by a strong emphasis on individual skill and long-term physical development. Training will occur only on land and will include Concept2 rowing machines, calisthenics, and stretching.
INDIVIDUALIZED COACHING
Our coaches are aware than no two athletes are the same. The winter conditioning programming provided by our coaches helps our athletes in the areas that the need to improve in.
Individualized coaching takes many forms:
- Goal setting for each individual athlete.
- Video analysis for learning and improving technique.
- Specific workout targets for each workout so that athletes training in the optimal performance zone.
- Video tutorials for coxswains to aid in improving skill level.
The Tulsa Youth Rowing Association Winter Training program is open to both current competitive and gROWth athletes. Newcomers who are in the 9th-12th grade and are interested in joining our competitive team in the spring may also register. The program is a co-ed structure with four practices per week. Sign-up is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Although attendance is not taken, please do not sign up and fill a space unless you can commit to at least a 50% attendance rate. Rowers who cannot attend Winter Training should discuss alternate options with Coach T in regards to maintaining their fitness level over the winter.
