TYRA Athletes Participate In Erg For Equality

#ErgForEquality

This past week our athletes participated in a fundraising activity to support various organizations in their mission to promote equality, justice, and systemic reform in honor of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and many others that have been victims of police brutality. The rowing community is rising to the challenge of providing opportunity and inclusion in the sport and standing up for racial justice.

Our athletes rowed for 8 minutes and 46 seconds on Concept2 rowing machines on June 11th and raised $140 which they decided to donate to a rowing organization in Washington DC called Serve Your City.

Serve Your City is a nonprofit that provides life-changing experiences and opportunities for at-risk D.C. students through inspiring programming and the support of passionate volunteers. (Excerpted from https://www.serveyourcitydc.org/)

TYRA supports inclusion in the sport of rowing and provides similar outreach programs to help provide more opportunity and access to the sport of rowing for youth of diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds.

Recently, TYRA partnered with Tulsa Public Schools and was awarded an Erg Ed grant to help supplement physical education classes in the district. For more information on this exciting new opportunity click here. Additionally, TYRA’s gROW Tulsa program has grown over the past two years and incorporates a STEM curriculum into afterschool programs using Concept2 rowing machines. TYRA hopes to build on this foundation and continue to support the community of Tulsa by providing access to rowing.
