11/4/2018 – The Tulsa Youth Rowing Association (TYRA) raced in the 27th Annual Wichita Frostbite Regatta on Sunday, November 4th. The challenging course features a race distance of 2.4 kilometers. The team was successful in some events, winning a gold medal and challenging in some other races.
Gold Medal Success!
The junior boys four of Jackson Linson, Dylan Kupetsky, Elias Elkhoury, Paul Maras, and coxswain Dakota Doctor won the gold medal in a time of 10:03 over crews from Kansas State Juniors and Wichita.
Head and Novice Coach Tamara Clayton said –
“As the novice coach, I am very proud of my athletes. When I released lineups, the novices were surprised at the fact that they had been entered in varsity events. They have been working hard and showing massive improvements, and I wanted to reward their efforts with more racing opportunities. At first, they were very anxious and lacked confidence in themselves. Seeing the light bulb finally clicked in their minds when they realized what they were truly capable of since day one, that’s why I coach. The best part? They had fun while not only growing in the sport but also strengthening their character – something that will take them way beyond their years as a youth rower.”
