The Tulsa Rowing Club juniors started their spring season by winning several medals at this weekend’s OKC Riversport indoor ergometer championships that took place in Oklahoma City.
The team won Gold and Silver place in the women’s junior lightweight category. Athletes Victoria Richter (Cascia Hall) and OxziAna Herbert (Monte Casino) won Gold and Silver with times of 8:13 and 8:22 respectively. Rachel Stromberg (Booker T. Washington) placed second in the women’s junior novice category with a time of 8:18. In addition, Amy Richardson (Bishop Kelley) took the silver medal in the women’s novice lightweight category with a time of 8:37.
“I’m really pleased with the Novice Girls and their first 2k experience today, their dedication and hard work from winter training was evident. I’m looking forward to another successful day at SWEAT next weekend in Dallas,” said Head Girls Novice Sara Younger.
The boy’s team also put forth a good showing and placed in the boy’s novice category. Warren White (Cascia Hall) and George Rabe (OKVHS) raced hard with personal best times of 7:02 and 7:06 respectively to capture silver and bronze.
“This was a strong performance by newcomers to the program and demonstrates one of the great things about the sport of rowing; success can come quickly if you work hard.” said boys coach Adam Stoermer.
