Row-A-Thon 2013: Tulsa Rowers Raise Funds and Go For World Record This Weekend

Bishop Kelley junior rower Nicole Baumann will attempt to row for 30 straight hours

Tulsa, OK – On Saturday January 26th the Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors will be holding their annual Row-A-Thon fundraiser. 60 athletes will row on rowing machines and on the Arkansas (if water conditions permit) attempting to row as many meters as possible during a 12-hour period from 7:00 a.m until 7:00 p.m. Each participant gets pledges from friends, family and supporters of the club.

During the course of the Row-A-Thon event, Bishop Kelley Junior Nicole Baumann will also attempt to row on the rowing machine for 30 consecutive hours. Baumann is attempting to break the existing record that now stands at 25 hours of continuous rowing. At last year’s event Union seniors Alex Workman and Brock Turner successfully broke world records as a part of the effort.

The club will use the funds to buy new equipment and to help fund a trip to the UK this summer. The club is attempting to be the first club from Oklahoma to row in the UK at the Henley Royal Regatta. Last year’s event raised over $20,000 for the club and helped to purchase a new eight for the varsity teams.

In addition, there will be members from various television stations who will participate in a race to determine which station has the best rowers.
